A LITTLE 4/20 HISTORY, ENJOY YOUR WEED DAY!

Many of you who celebrate this day globally probably don't know where this 4-20 term comes from. This year, I will be doing something a little different.  Usually I just post for you all to enjoy your 4/20 but this year, I will enlighten you a little bit.  Funny enough the term 4-20 comes from an unofficial 10 code from police officers in the early 70's (like mostly everything else weed related). The code was used by officers to let one another know that weed smoking was in progress and you guessed it, the code was 420.  Nothing is ever a secret for long and the general public got wind of it soon after.

In 1990 Deadheads (Grateful Dead fans), were handing out flyers right before a Grateful Dead concert that read: "we are going to meet at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420ing in Marin County at the Bolinas Ridge sunset spot on Mt. Tamalpais". The term caught national attention and from then on has been known globally as the "Weed Day".  So, it was actually a combination of things that led to this day of global civil unrest.

As a teenager and young adult part of the hype of 4/20 was that there was almost a zero tolerance and weed was completely forbidden.  What better way to get a reaction out of people than to tell them they're not allowed to do something.  Over the years the court system, law makers and officers have been showing a lot more leniency toward weed smoking and possession of it.  Which leads to my next set of questions:  Now that so many states (and countries) are leaning toward the legalizing of medicinal and/recreational marijuana, does it make it less interesting for you?  How does the growing acceptance of marijuana in this nation affected your thoughts, views or even usage of the cannabis plant?  Let me know in the comments below.  Either way, today is your day.  Be safe as you burn...
