NO MORE MONDAY WEAR?

Carnival Monday in Trinidad could become a full costume day again if the carnival organisers have their way.

The National Carnival Commission (NCC) has said it will hold discussions on the idea which is being mooted to relieve congestion on the Port of Spain parade route on Carnival Tuesday. At present most bands wear t-shirts on the Monday, reserving full costume for the final day of festivities.

However, NCC deputy chairman Don Sylvester indicated that large bands may also be allocated a particular day on which to parade.

He said: “We are about to start discussions on looking at two days of parade, whether it is by lottery system, pulling at a straw. If you are mandated to parade on Monday you parade on Monday whether you like parading on Tuesday.”
